“Despite repeated assurances, the government continues with the direct service PG postings and has not announced pay hike. If the government fails to meet our demands, we will be forced to go on a work boycott protest,” said Dr C Sundaresan, State president, federation of all government doctors Associations.

The govt doctors had earlier demanded salary hike and allowances on a par with their counterparts in other States while the service doctors demanded their recruitment through regular counselling instead of direct postings across the State. It may be noted that the Government Doctors’ Association and the service doctors have put forth these demands more than a year ago.

“The counselling should be done based on the ranking and merit by the medical recruitment board instead of direct postings. This will help us get preferred district for postings,” said Dr D Silambarasan, a service doctor from a Government Medical College.

The medicos staged protest outside various government medical colleges and government hospitals across the State.

However, the dharna did not affect the medical services as they were held before the out-patient service timings, during the break and after duty hours. The federation of government doctors associations will decide the next course of action on July 16.
