Airport inducts two electric cars

As part of the Central Government’s green initiative, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has inducted two electric cars for airport operations on Friday.

The release from the Chennai airport said, the cars are battery operated, eco-friendly and have zero tailpipe emissions.


Unlike a conventional vehicle, an electric car doesn’t emit harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, and particulate matter. The electric cars can be run on less than Re 1 per kilomtere. As against electricity rate of rupees seven per unit, the total consumption by an electric car on a full charge is 13.91 units and it can run up to 110 kilometres. s for airport operations on Friday.


The Chennai Airport has already inducted two battery operated e-cart for garbage collection from the operational area. The release mentioned that the airport authorities plan to induct more electric vehicles in future.
