80 sovereigns burgled from engineer’s house

Unidentified men gained entry into a Central government employee’s house in Tirumullaivoyal and escaped with 80 sovereigns of jewels, Rs 1 lakh in cash, silver articles and an expensive mobile phone in broad daylight on Saturday.

The police said that Dakshinamoorthy is employed in Bengaluru as an executive engineer with the Central government, while his wife, mother and son were staying at the house at Kamalam Nagar in Tirumullaivoyal.


On Saturday, after they went to T Nagar for shopping, the burglars entered the house through the back door. When the family returned, they found the valuables burgled and informed the police.


Sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts were brought to collect evidence. As liquor bottles were found near the compound wall behind the house, the police suspect that the burglars could have waited until the occupants left the house to enter it. A hunt has been launched for the suspects.


10 sovereigns, Rs 3L burgled in Mylapore

In a similar incident, 10 sovereigns and Rs 3 lakh in cash were burgled from a house in Mylapore on Saturday night. Chokkalingam of Nochi Nagar had gone to his hometown in Seyyur and returned to the city on Sunday morning.To his shock, he found his house broken open and valuables stolen. Based on his complaint, the Mylapore police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects.
