5-member armed gang held, murder bid foiled

Pulianthope police thwarted a murder with the arrest of five youth in possession of machetes, in Pulianthope on Monday.

The arrested persons have been identified as C Prakash alias ‘Kulla’ Prakash (22) and K Arun alias Isarabeta (22) of Choolai, and R Chandru (22), R Sathish alias ‘Lotta’ Sathish (23) and R Prem alias Prem Kumar (22) of Pattalam. Police seized six machetes of different shapes and sizes from them.


A few days ago, Chandru and four others were celebrating his birthday at Perambur, when one Vigneshwaran and his friends, their rival gang, attacked Chandru and escaped, said police.


In a bid to take revenge, Chandru and four others had hatched a plan to murder Vigneshwaran. However, acting on a tip-off, Pulianthope police secured Chandru and his associates. They were booked under eight sections and remanded in judicial custody. Vigneshwaran has also been reportedly detained for an inquiry.


Meanwhile, Kodungaiyur traffic police nabbed a two-wheeler rider in possession of a machete on Monday and handed him over to law and order police. He was identified as K Nagaraj (19) of Vyasarpadi.


As Nagaraj did not stop the bike when the traffic police on vehicle check tried to intercept him on Erukkancheri High Road, they chased and secured him. Investigation revealed that he has several assault cases pending against them.


“He used to target lone pedestrians to rob them of their valuables,” said police. The machete, mobile phone and his bike were seized before he was remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
