In just one week after the water manager made its presence in the social media platform, its official Twitter handle has garnered more than 2,350 followers. It all began with Metrowater’s tweet, in its official handle @CHN_Metro_Water, appreciating ISRO for successfully launching Chandrayaan-2 on Monday.
“Congrats @isro for #Chandrayaan2theMoon. We are in the process of augmenting new water resources for our city. If you find any water on the Moon, you know whom to call first. May the Science be with you!” Metrowater tweeted.
Soon after the tweet, the official handle evoked a mixed response as one user tweeted “Sorry, do not find this funny. Complete failure of Metrowater to develop a Water Supply Master Plan for the next 50 years, in sync with the City’s development plan & to implement projects listed in it.”
When one user replied asking what the Metrowater would do if ISRO finds sewage on the Moon, the ‘admin’ responded with “We’ll treat it with our advanced TTRO and TTUF technology and send it to your home as potable water.” The water manager also pointed out to the Chennai Traffic Police that they have apparently been following the wrong Twitter handle. It tweeted: “Hi @CCTPolice_Alert looks like you are following a wrong handle. @CHN_Metro_water is our original handle. We very well know that you would only like to follow the right leads in your cases too. So, giving you a heads up, mate!”
A Metrowater official said that they have plans to foray into other social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook as well.
“We are happy that our handle has evoked such a response. We opened our Twitter handle on July 15 on a trial basis. Our initial idea was to connect with the people by keeping them updated about our measures and projects. Now, residents post complaints and we forward it to the concerned wings,” the official said.
