Slashed by chain snatcher, undeterred woman nabs him

A 49-year-old woman managed to nab a chain snatcher who threatened her at knifepoint and slit her hand after she shouted for help in Poonamallee and handed him over to the police.

The victim was identified as M Dhanalakshmi, a private firm employee and resident of Om Shakthi Nagar in Kattupakkam. She was returning home after buying groceries from a nearby shop when the incident happened.


Around 7 pm, when she was walking on a deserted road, a biker approached her on the pretext of seeking directions to an address. While she was explaining the route, he suddenly snatcher her gold chain. She immediately raised alarm but the snatcher brandished a knife and slit her on the palm.


Undeterred by his action, Dhanalakshmi caught hold of him and shouted for help. The residents of the nearby houses came to her rescue and thrashed the snatcher before handing him over to the Poonamallee police.


He was later identified as Shivakumar (45) of Indira Nagar in Vadapalani. While he initially claimed that he was a journalist and showed an identity card, the police found that it was fake. He was then remanded in judicial custody.


Nurse attacked and robbed of chain in Ambattur


An unidentified trio attacked a nurse and robbed her three-sovereign chain in Ambattur on Saturday evening.


The victim, A Rekha of Annanur, a private hospital nurse, was on her way on a two-wheeler to attend a patient in Surapet, when she was intercepted by a bike-borne trio at Kallikuppam.


They allegedly attacked her and relieved her of the chain before fleeing from the spot. Based on her complaint, the Ambattur police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the trio.
