Duo dognaps golden retriever from T Nagar

The accused used a cab attached to a taxi aggregator to take away the pet a little past midnight on Friday. A compliant has been lodged at the Pondy Bazaar police station in this regard.

According to police, the dog, Jackie, belongs to Sharath Ravi, an employee of an ITeS firm. The dog was kidnapped from outside his house on North Usman Road in T Nagar at 12.11 am on Saturday. A CCTV footage from the neighbourhood showed a man, believed to be driver of a call taxi, wooing the dog, which was standing on the road, with some snacks.

“A woman sitting inside the car was also feeding Jackie. She was also seen walking around the car with the dog. After she got in, the driver, wearing a white T-shirt, pushed the dog inside and closed the door before speeding away from the location,” said Rahim, a businessman, and friend of dog’s owner.

When Sharath and his friend approached the police on Saturday with a complaint that his dog was ‘abducted’, the police told them the CCTV cameras in the locality were not working. “We then checked the neighbourhood and found a shop with CCTV camera. The footage retrieved from it showed the dog being wooed by the accused and taken in a car,” Rahim said.

Sharath’s family and friends have been searching for the dog, including at various locations where pets are sold. However, they could not find Jackie anywhere. “Based on registration number recalled by an onlooker, we even tried to trace the vehicle in which the dog was taken, but in vain. We hope that police would retrieve footage from some other CCTV cameras, and trace the vehicle and people involved in the incident,” Rahim added. The family has also sought help on social media to trace the dog.
