Multiple collision hits traffic on GST Road, 15 injured
A multivehicle collision involving seven cars, buses and a lorry on the GST Road near Acharapakkam in neighbouring Kancheepuram district early on Monday morning left 15 persons with minor injuries.

As the vehicles involved in the accident blocked the busy road, Monday morning traffic towards Chennai was affected for about two hours.
According to the police, a car from Tindivanam was coming towards Chennai airport for dropping a family. When nearing Acharapakkam, the driver lost control and the vehicle turned turtle on the GST Road. Immediately, the vehicles that were coming behind the car applied sudden break, but three cars rammed one another before coming to a halt.
Then, two buses and a lorry that were coming in the same direction hit the vehicles piled up in front. In the accident, 15 persons suffered injuries.
Based on an alert, police teams from Maduranthagam, Acharapakkam, and Melmaruvathur rushed to the spot. The injured persons were rushed to Maduranthagam and Chengalpattu government hospitals. After that, the teams cleared the road by removing the mangled vehicles. The Acharapakkam police have registered a case.
This affected traffic on the GST Road for nearly two hours. “It was normalised after 5 am,” police claimed.
Man killed in road mishap
A 47-year-old man was run over by a car near Uthiramerur while going to attend the prayer at mosque on Monday. The deceased was identified as Jahangir from Jharkhand was working on a private firm in Kandigai near Uthiramerur. As Jahangir was walking on the Vandavasi - Uthiramerur Road, he was run over by a speeding car and died on the spot. The Peru Nagar police registered a case and arrested car driver Palanivel (38).
