Priest found dead under mysterious circumstances

The man was identified as Prem Kumar of Katoor village, a priest at the Anjaneyar temple in Keerapakkam near Guduvanchery. Police said that Prem Kumar was living alone in his farmland after getting separated from his wife a few years ago.

Early morning on Monday, villagers noticed the priest lying dead on Urapakkam-Kattor Road. Based on their alert, a police team went to the spot and recovered the body. The officials found that Prem Kumar’s mobile phone and his two-wheeler were missing. His phone has been switched off now, said the police. His body was sent to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for autopsy.

Police said that Prem Kumar used to open the temple early in the morning and returned home after 9.30 pm every day. The police suspect that when Prem Kumar was returning on his two-wheeler on Sunday night, a robbery gang might have intercepted and strangulated him to death with his towel.
