The decision of the transport authorities to stop services abruptly without informing the public has put the residents in crisis as they find it very difficult to procure their daily needs and reach schools and colleges. The only bus service, operating on all the days throughout the week, was cut to two days a week by the authorities. The bus used to commute between Irumbedu and Maduranthagam with eight trips a day. When the residents asked for an additional bus, the transport officials terminated the existing service. When contacted, a senior transport officer of Kancheepuram district said, “We commute on the routes where we get at least Rs10,000 a day but in Irumpedu, we used to get less than Rs4,000. We are planning to divert SETC buses soon to Maduranthagam.”
