CMRL commissions 100KW rooftop solar plant

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) commissioned a rooftop solar power plant with a capacity of 100 KW at CMBT Metro station.

An official release said that the CMRL has installed solar power plants with a capacity of 5.3 MW in its stations and Koyambedu depot so far. On July 4, the CMRL had commissioned a 1.2-MW solar plant at Koyambedu. With the commissioning of the 100-KW plant at CMBT, the total installed capacity of the plant has gone upto 5.3 MW.

The release said that the CMRL has planned to commission plant with a capacity of 8 MW by the end of this year. “If the 8-MW plant is installed, 1,16,80,000 units will be generated per year and up to Rs 2.54 crore can be saved per year towards energy cost. The carbon emission can also be reduced by up to 11,587 tonnes per year,” it said.

Meanwhile, the CMRL increased the train frequency with the availability of a train every five minutes during peak hours from Monday. The statement said that commuters can board a train every five minutes during peak hours (8.30 am to 10.30 am and 5 pm to 8.30 pm) and every seven minutes during non-peak hours (6 am to 8.30 am, 10.30 am to 5 pm and 8.30 pm to 10 pm). At present, there is a train every seven minutes.
