Dengue awareness for 1,550 students
The Greater Chennai Corporation conducted a dengue awareness campaign at a school in Choolaimedu on Friday.

According to a Chennai Corporation communique, 1,550 students and 65 teachers took part in the campaign which was held in Jaigopal Garodia Government Girls Higher secondary school.
“The students were taught about the life cycle of mosquitoes and their sources. Also, awareness was created to remove unused tyres, coconut husks and shells, and other items that may hold freshwater at their house and surroundings,” the release said.
The students were also asked to visit government hospitals or Chennai Corporation hospitals if they get sick with any kind of fever. “Students should not take medicines without consulting doctors,” TG Srinivasan, city health education officer said at the event.
An exhibition was conducted at the school, in which items supporting mosquito breeding was showed to the students.
Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash had already warned building owners, who fail to remove unwanted items from the terrace and backyards, of hefty penalties.
