The police have identified the woman as K Monisha (39) a resident of Virugambakkam and a practising advocate at the Saidapet magistrate court, who was traveling on a two-wheeler to her house on Thursday night and the retired sub-inspector of police as Venkatraman.
According to police, the incident happened after an argument broke out between the two over an incident of road rage.
The fight between the two began after the car driven by the Venkatraman splashed stagnant water on the dress of Monisha, who was riding a two-wheeler. Monisha followed Venkatraman’s car and stopped it. She allegedly threatened him with a slipper for splashing water on her dress, which resulted in a nasty argument between the two.
“At around 9.30pm when she was on the Dasarathapuram main road in Saligramam, a speeding car splashed stagnant water on her and sped away. Monisha chased the car and picked up an argument with the driver. In the melee, she hit him with a slipper and in turn the man in the car slapped her and drove away,” said a police officer. Monisha took a picture of the car number plate with her mobile phone and lodged a complaint at the Virugambakkam police station. Venkatraman was arrested on charges of assault and remanded under judicial custody.
