SHRC pulls up govt on failure to implement Disabilities Act
The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has pulled up the Chief Secretary and the commissioner and secretary of the Differently-Abled department regarding the failure to implement the provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.

Taking suo moto cognisance of the issue from media reports, an order passed by SHRC questioned the Differently-Abled department secretary whether the government’s failure to implement the provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act and High Court order amounts to violation of human rights of differently-abled people.
He also asked whether any action was taken against officials of the State Commissionerate for differently-abled persons for alleged surrendered amount of Rs 30 crore allocated for the welfare schemes last year. The order also questioned the commissioner of Differently-Abled department how many differently-abled applicants in all categories are waiting to getting welfare schemes including scholarship, pension and maintenance assistance throughout the State. He asked the authorities to reply within four weeks.
