Nandini of Kottivakkam recently received an SMS on her phone from Greater Chennai Traffic police that she has been booked for driving her vehicle without wearing a helmet in Elephant Gate. She was shocked as she was elsewhere when she received the SMS. When she opened the link that was provided with the SMS, she saw that vehicle involved in the office had the registration number of her car.

Confused as to how she could have been booked for not wearing a helmet while driving a car in a place where she had not been, she and her husband Parameshwaran approached the Elephant Gate police station. As there was no proper response from them, the couple submitted a petition at the city police Commissionerate on Saturday.

When contacted, MV Jaya Gowri, Joint Commissioner (Traffic, North) said that they have the received the petition only on Saturday and added that an inquiry would be ordered.

DT Next had already reported that a techie was falsely booked in a helmet case with the registration number of his car in Madipakkam for the offence committed by another person. Officials said that it was a fault of the enforcement officer who keyed in the wrong registration number in the e-challan machine.
