Several parts of the city received moderate rainfall on Wednesday evening. While the Nungambakkam weather station recorded 6.9 mm of rainfall, Meenambakkam received 9.8 mm, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre, here. Heavy rain occurred at Nilgiri, Coimbatore and Theni during this period.

The sudden downpour lead to traffic jams and water logging in the city with vehicles moving bumber to bumper in arterial roads like the Mount Road and Poonamallee High Road.
The rain also brought down the maximum temperatures in the city and weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 34.8 degree Celsius and 34.2 degree Celsius respectively. The minimum temperature was 24.6 degree Celsius and 24.8 degree Celsius in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam.
The forecast for Thursday suggested thunderstorms while temperatures are expected to be normal.
According to TN Weatherman, Pradeep John, said that convectional rainfall in Chennai and suburbs is becoming a daily activity.
“It has becoming daily phenomenon, the clouds developing in the same spot again and again be it KTC or Salem region or the Pudukottai stretch. Chennai received heavy rainfall in the city compared to previous day. Sivaganga-Pudukottai-Thanjavur and other nearby areas will get rainfall too and then will move to delta belt in the end. Salem region will get rains too. Ghats in Valparai, Nilgiris, Kanyakumari and Theni will get good rains like what it has been receiving in last 2 days,” said the Weatherman said.
