“The road has been damaged for more than a month and recent showers have made it worse. Overflowing sewage makes the situation difficult for commuters and residents. After a spell of rain, water stagnates and causes traffic jams during peak hours besides forcing the public to walk in the dirty water,” said Vishwanathan, a motorist from Royapuram.

The condition of the road makes it difficult for ambulances to reach nearby hospitals. Though numerous complaints were filed by the commuters and residents, no action has been taken yet.

“It is difficult to walk after nightfall as there are no streetlights. There have been many cases where people were injured after a bad fall. At least five accidents happen every day. We are tired of giving complains and the officials have not even bothered to visit the place. We also spoke to the officers at the nearby police station. But I don’t think they reported it to higher officers. When Metrowater lorry comes this way, we must wait for at least 30 minutes to cross this road,” said Shanthi R, a resident of Royapuram.

Speaking to DT Next, a senior Corporation official said that a month ago, they visited the area and an alternative path was readied for the public. “When heavy vehicles take the road, it becomes even worse. We will ensure that steps are taken soon,” the official said.
