Judicial Magistrate’s laptop stolen from car on HC campus

The incident has shocked the security officers, because the thief had managed to steal a laptop of a magistrate from right under their noses and that too within the High Court, which is heavily guarded by the CISF and a team from the city police.

Police said that Tiruvallur district chief judicial magistrate M Shirijha had on Thursday come to the High Court in connection with some official work. Her car was driven by one Manmadhan, 42, who is said to have parked the car in the parking area and left to have tea when the theft took place. When the judicial officer returned to the car, she found the laptop which she had placed on the seat, missing. The shocked magistrate enquired with the driver about the laptop, who vehemently pleaded total ignorance on the subject.

Later, Shirijha lodged a complaint with the High Court police station. Police said that they are combing the CCTV footage from the premises to zero in on the suspect.

Security teams do not allow any person inside the High Court campus without scrutiny of their identity. So, police are hoping to nab the culprit soon, because CISF would have details of all the people who had entered the High Court campus on Thursday.
