According to her complaint, she failed to remove the chain while placing it among other idols on Thursday and by the time she returned to the spot to retrieve it, the chain was gone, the police said. Vanaja (40), a resident of Annmalai Nagar, placed it along with other idols which were getting ready for immersion procession in the sea on Sunday near Tiruvottiyur.
She purchased a one and half feet Vinayaka idol for celebrations and decorated it with garlands and her two-sovereign chain. After worshipping it for three days she decided to place the idol along with the giant idols for immersion. After placing the idol at Raja Shanmugham Nagar 9th Street, she returned home. Only after reaching home she realised that she forgot to remove the gold chain. By the time she rushed back for it, the chain was gone. Vanaja has lodged a complaint at the Sathangadu police station.
