A three-member police team led by a sub-inspector, which was on night patrol at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) noticed abandoned parcels on the first platform. As none came forward to claim it, they seized the packages. When they opened them, the police found out it was filled with ganja – together weighing 16 kg.
When they combed the footage from the CCTV camera at the spot, the team found a woman was seen keeping the parcels and leaving the spot after waiting for a while. CMBT police registered a case and launched a hunt for the absconding woman. Police suspect that the woman could have smuggled the ganja from Andhra Pradesh and left the consignment in the terminus fearing that police could catch her.

Ajithkumar is a murder accused and was released from the prison on bail. He was remanded in judicial custody on Sunday, and further investigation is on to find out where he procured the ganja from and to whom he was going to supply it.
