History-sheeter held for gunpoint robbery bid

A 44-year-old history-sheeter was chased and caught by passers-by when he tried to rob a shopkeeper at gunpoint in Red Hills on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh (44) of Gummidipoondi, a history-sheeter in Kavarapettai and Gummidipoondi police stations with charges of murder, attempt to murder and smuggling of red sanders pending against him.


The police said that Ramesh threatened a shopkeeper at gunpoint at Gandhi Nagar in Red Hills in broad daylight on Tuesday. “As the victim raised an alarm, Ramesh tried to run away. He was chased and secured,” said police. The pistol in his possession was seized. The Sholavaram police said that it was a loaded gun of proper make, but did not reveal where he procured it was from. He was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday. Furtherinvestigation is on.
