According to police, Vidya, a 22-year-old has been working as a nurse in a private hospital in city. Her brother Vignesh (24) is working in a software company in Siruseri. Few days ago, she had gone to Tirunellar to attend a friend’s marriage, and returned from Karaikal to Chennai on a government bus.

On Wednesday, she called up her brother and informed that she was back. However, on Thursday morning, her father Arumugam from Telangana, received a call from an unknown person stating that they have abducted Vidya, and sought Rs 10 lakh to release her. They cut the call immediately after that.

The same gang then called her brother Vignesh, and sought the same amount. But he said he was not convinced, after which they gave the phone to Vidya. She pleaded with him to rescue her from the gang immediately.

Shocked by this, he filed a complaint with the Koyambedu police. Following this, a special team headed by Joint Commissioner Vijayakumari, that comprised three assistant commissioners, and seven inspectors, are investigating the case. The police team is trying to trace the missing nurse using the call record.
