Fake PCB officer held for demanding ‘bribe’

On Monday evening, Sundar Raj approached Kunal and allegedly told him that his unit is functioning without a proper licence and that he should part with Rs 5 lakh.

The Red Hills police have arrested a 49-year-old man who threatened a businessman to part with Rs 5 lakh posing as a Pollution Control Board officer. The accused, M Sundar Raj, of Madhavaram was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday. 

The victim, Kunal of Vepery, runs a plastic recycling unit at Vadaperumbakkam. On Monday evening, Sundar Raj approached Kunal and allegedly told him that his unit is functioning without a proper licence and that he should part with Rs 5 lakh. On suspicion, Kunal informed the Redhills police and Sundar was picked up for interrogation. The police found that he was not a PCB official but posed as one at different factories in the locality to cheat them.
