Incomplete underground electric cabling upsets residents of Velachery

The slow pace of work has raised concern among the commuters. ‘The work started a year ago and they completed half of it within six months. But the work was stopped suddenly. The incomplete project and its related chaos have turned the area into traffic chock-a-block. We have filed complaints with officials to expedite the work. But they haven’t done anything to address our plight,” said M Balakrishnan, a resident of Tansi Nagar. The underground cabling work was completed in certain areas such as Dhandeeshwaram Nagar, Tansi Nagar 9th Street. But 17th Street is yet to be connected. “The cables are tangled in the electricity box. We have urged officials to give connections and remove the EB box and unused cables in the area. We have children playing on the street and apprehensions about them coming in contact with live wires remain rife,” said Raguraman N, a resident of Dhandeeswaram Nagar.

Also, after giving connections in a few areas at Velachery, they did not close the pit, which poses a threat to the public. “During rainfall, it is scary to pass through this route, as there is traffic congestion and scope of someone falling in the pit looms large. We are tired of complaining to the officials,” said Vishnu P, another resident. Speaking to DT Next, a Tangedco official said, “We close the pit and give connection immediately after the work is completed. We haven’t completed the work in certain areas due to rain. We will ensure that steps are taken to better the situation soon.”
