The police suspect that S Arivazhagan was murdered by the sons of a woman in the neighbourhood, who was manhandled by him in the recent past.

The police noted that the deceased was alone at his house on Thursday night and was having his dinner when the gang members barged in and started attacking him with sickles. His parents are staying in another house nearby.

He could not come out of the place because the room was very small, and the attackers wasted no time in proceeding with their plan. “The murder scene was gory. His head was cut open, and parts of his brain was found on the plate on which he was having his dinner,” police sources said. There were cut injuries all over his body, police added.

The gang escaped from the scene immediately after the murder. A police team from Anna Square police station which reached the spot shifted the body to government hospital for post-mortem.

Initially police thought it could be a revenge killing because Arivazhagan was involved in a murder a year ago. He was listed as accused number 2 in the murder of one ‘Bulb’ Kumar. “Arivazhagan was slowly becoming a local gangster and recently he had torn off the cloth of a woman during a quarrel. After the incident there was tension between the sons of the woman and the deceased. After the murder, the two sons of the woman have gone missing,” police said, suspecting that the two could be behind the murder.

Arivazhagan had recently come out of jail after being arrested in a ganja case.
