Three more MDMK men held for assault on Corporation engineer

City police have arrested three more MDMK workers in connection with the assault on Corporation executive engineer for removing the banners put up for the party conference at the YMCA grounds in Nandanam on September 15.

The police had already arrested the party’s South Chennai district secretary P Subramani in the case. The three others arrested on Saturday have been identified as Srinivasan (MDMK north Chennai district secretary), Sankar (Ambattur unit secretary) and Jai Ganesh (a party member). The arrested trio was remanded in Puzhal prison after being produced before a magistrate court in the city.


The accused allegedly attacked executive engineer K Varadarajan when he tried to remove the banners and hoardings erected without permission outside the venue of a party function at Nandanam on Sunday. Varadarajan, who was injured, was admitted to a private hospital.


Based on his complaint, the police had registered a case under the IPC sections 294 (B) (abusing), 323 (assaulting using hands), 353 (preventing a government servant from discharging his duty), 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 3 of Public Property Damage and Loss Act.
