3 ex-students held for selling ganja near pvt engg college

The city police’s crackdown on ganja menace has netted three former students of an engineering college in Potheri in Kancheepuram district, who were arrested for allegedly possessing and peddling the contraband near their college.

According the police, they increased the vigil in the locality after receiving information about the sale of ganja in the private college premises and neighbouring areas. When a team headed by Vandalur DSP MS Valavan along with Maraimalai Nagar police station inspector Selvam were patrolling the locality on Sunday morning, they found three youngsters standing near a dhaba. When questioned by the officers, they gave contradicting answers and the police decided to search their vehicles.


During the check, the police found three kg of ganja hidden inside. The youngsters were immediately taken to the police station and arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused were identified as K Murali (25), V Anand (26) and K Mohan Raj (26). The trio were staying in a rented house in Perungalathur and selling the narcotics to the students, added the police.


Couple held with 23 kg of ganja

During a patrol in Mettukuppam in Thoraipakkam on Saturday, the police nabbed a couple, who were allegedly selling ganja on their bike. They also seized 23 kg of ganja from the couple, identified as P Chidambaram and Nagajothi, residents of Choolaima Nagar, apart from Rs 31,140 in cash. Both were remanded in judicial custody.


7 held for selling ganja in Tiruvallur

Seven persons were caught for suspected ganja peddling in Pulicat and Sholavaram areas in Tiruvallur district on Saturday night. The police nabbed them based on tip-off received by Pawan Kumar Reddy, DSP, Ponneri. A special team arrested four peddlers and seized 1.5 kg of ganja from the suspects in Pulicat. Three others were secured in Sholavaram.
