Justice M S Ramesh sought the details while hearing a plea moved by Ilayathalaimurai, a Social Awareness Group and an NGO seeking to hold a fast to express solidarity to the grieved family. Justice Ramesh on wondering as to how those behind placing the illegal banners were yet to be arrested, posted the plea for further hearing to Wednesday after directing the police to file a report inthis regard.

The petitioner E Tamiizmani, Executive Member, Ilayathalaimurai, had submitted that following the tragic incident caused by the illegal banner an application was filed before the Commissioner of Police on September 13 seeking permission to hold a fast on September 15 in front of the PallikaranaiCorporation Office.

But permission was not granted despite the representation assuring that no mikes will be used and none of the members participating in the fast will not speak either to the press or media.

Claiming that the rejection of permission to hold the fast was unjust and against the principles of natural justice, the plea submitted that the protest is not to condemn anybody but extend solidarity to the grieved family.

Based on this, the plea sought the court to direct the police to allow them to hold the fast at any date the authority may decide.
