Premalatha blames fate for Subhasri’s death, draws ire
DMDK treasurer Premalatha Vijayakant on Monday blamed the fate for the death of Subhasri, a techie who lost her life in a freak accident after an illegal hoarding fell on her, making her lose balance of the two-wheeler and come under a speeding lorry.

“The death of Subhasri is unfortunate. Everyone erects banners these days and under the circumstance it was fate that Subhasri crossed the banner at that time, the banner falling on the road and she should fall down and a water lorry should run over her,” alleged Premalatha, at a public meeting held at Avadion Sunday.
The statement of Premalatha sent shock waves across the State. She was criticised for being trivial towards the death of Subhasri. The social media users and political commentators also condemned the shocker from the DMDK treasurer.
Political commentator Sumanth C Raman retweeted a post calling Premalatha Vijayakant insensitive and criticised the Chennai police for failing to arrest the prime accused, Jayagopal, even after 11 days of the incident. He also criticised Chennai police in his own tweet. “Where is Jayagopal? Tamil Nadu police is one of the best in the country. It is inconceivable that they don’t know where he is. If they can’t find him, then why can he not turn himself in and avoid embarrassing AIADMK? Being ruling party man he is unlikely to slip and fall in the bathroom also,” tweeted Sumanth C Raman.
It was not just Premalatha who was insensitive on the issue, but it was also her son and budding politician Vijaya Prabhakaran, who said, “The issue (Subhasri’s death) was made sensational because it was AIADMK banner.”
Reiterating the statement Premalatha said, “DMK President M K Stalin made the issue big because it was AIADMK banner. Had it been an ordinary banner the issue would not have been made big.”
