Even though there is only one bus operating on this route, it does not stop at Burma Nagar and Sadayankuppam. People are forced to walk for three kilometres and take a bus from Sathyamoorthy Nagar.
“Earlier, there were frequent bus services to Broadway and Tiruvottiyur. But now, they have cut the number of services. Apart from this, Burma Nagar is a bus stop where the drivers go without stopping. We have to walk or take share autos which charge Rs 20 for three kilometres to reach Sathyamoorthy Nagar,” said Shanthi N, a resident of Burma Nagar.
Residents claimed that it is difficult for them to reach offices, colleges or schools on time. “School children must wait for more than an hour for a bus. Even if any buses stops, they reach school late and management sends them back home. We have complained to the town panchayat and politicians, but nothing has changed so far. Even in the case of a medical emergency, we are unable to reach hospitals on time and adding to it, autos charge twice the rate while travelling at night,” said Kumarajan R, another resident.
Speaking to DT Next, an MTC official said, “We are planning to operate buses on the route soon and we have not received any complaints from the public regarding bus drivers not stopping near their place. We will ensure steps are taken soon.”
