In Chintadripet, a six-member gang hacked Thamizharasan (37) of Padavattamman Koil Street, a painter, to death. The police said that the deceased was involved in a murder case in 2004 and believe it to be a revenge killing in that connection.

The incident happened around 9 pm on Sunday. The police noted that Thamizharasan had more than five cases of murder, theft and assault pending against him at different stations in the city. Recently, he started working as a painter in Puducherry. On Sunday night, he reached Chennai and was walking towards his home when a gang attacked him.

When he was near his house, a gang of six blocked Thamizharasan and started attacking him with sharp weapons. Passers-by who witnessed the attack informed the police and also rushed to the victim to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

However, Thamizharasan died around 1 am without responding to treatment. The Chintadripet police registered a case and during preliminary investigation, they found leads that indicated that he was murdered by Aravindan and his associates.

According to the police, Thamizharasan reportedly murdered ‘Bombay’ Sasi, a history-sheeter, in 2004. Aravindan is Sasi’s brother-in-law. The police believe that Aravindan executed the murder to avenge Sasi’s death.

In another incident on the same night in MKB Nagar, M Jagan of Sathyamoorthy Nagar, an autorickshaw driver, was walking on 68th Street towards his home around 9.30 pm. Suddenly, a four-member gang stopped him and started attacking him with sharp weapons. Though he tried to escape from the spot, the gang chased and hacked him to death.

The residents who witnessed the incident informed the MKB Nagar police. Though he was rushed to the Stanley Medical College Hospital, he died there without responding to treatment. During preliminary investigation, the police found that the deceased had some criminal cases pending against him. He was also involved in a problem with a woman in the locality. “We are trying to identify the killers,” police added.
