Miscreants attempt to loot ATM after blackening CCTV cameras

The police are on the lookout for three men who tried to break open an ATM kiosk with the intention to loot the cash after masking the surveillance camera with black paint near Kancheepuram in the wee hours of Thursday.

The incident happened at the SBI ATM located on Uthiramerur Main Road near Keramandapam village. The Kancheepuram taluk policemen were patrolling the locality on a two-wheeler when they noticed three men at an ATM kiosk. The police said that one of them was standing outside and two others were inside the ATM.


On seeing the police, the man, who was standing outside the kiosk, alerted the two others and then escaped on his two-wheeler. Immediately, the two men also escaped in another bike.


The policemen tried to chase them, but the criminals managed to escape. Later, the policemen, who inspected the ATM kiosk, found that the group had tried to break-open the ATM.


The CCTV cameras inside the booth were painted in black and the machine was damaged. The Kanchi taluk police have registered a case and are trying to identify the robbers with the help of CCTV footage collected from nearby buildings.
