Sensory park gets US organisation’s award

The Greater Chennai Corporation has received ‘Smart Project Award’ for setting the sensory park under the Smart City Mission, on Wednesday. The award was instituted by the India wing of Smart Cities Council, US-headquartered organisation. “The award was given in the category of Smart Citizen Service Delivery,” a Chennai Corporation press release said.

The civic body set up the sensory park under the Smart City Mission at a cost of Rs 1.37 crore in Teynampet zone. In order to assist children with disabilities and special children, the park has been equipped with wheelchairs, sensory statues and other facilities. “We are also conducting awarness events for children with learning disabilities, apart from story-reading sessions. The park had also received ‘Good Governance’ award during the Independence Day celebration in the State,” the release added. M Govinda Rao, Deputy Commissioner (works) received the award on behalf of the civic body.
