Corporation engineers to process building approvals

After the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) delegated powers to Greater Chennai Corporation to sanction building plan approvals of larger buildings, the civic body appointed engineers to process these applications.

According to an order issued by Corporation Commissioner G Prakash, zonal executive engineers can sanction or refuse applications for non-high rise residential buildings with a maximum height of 9 metres, 16 dwelling units and up to 464.50 sqm (5,000 sqft) area with stilt-plus-two-floors or ground floor-plus-first floor.

They would also process applications for commercial buildings with a maximum height of 9 metres, and stilt-plus-two-floors or ground floor-plus-first floor and up to 300 sqm area.

Regional superintending engineers can sanction or refuse applications for non-high rise residential buildings with a maximum height of 9 metres, 16 dwelling units and up to 464.50 sqm (5,000 sqft) area with stilt-plus-three-floors or ground floor-plus-two-floors. They would also process applications for commercial buildings with a maximum height of 12 metres with stilt-plus-three-floors or ground floor-plus-two-floor and up to 300 sqm area.

Principal chief engineer can sanction or refuse applications for non-high rise residential buildings with a maximum height of 12 metres, 16 dwelling units and area more than 5,000 sqft up to 10,000 sqft with stilt-plus-three-floors or ground floor-plus-two-floors.

All applications seeking permission to demolish existing buildings with any area and height would be processed by zonal executive engineers.
