The victim, Ram Kumar (38) of Cuddalore, a call taxi driver, was on his way home to Chennai from Cuddalore. Along the way, when he reached Puducherry, a man in his mid-thirties requested him to drop him off at Chennai, promising to pay some amount for the ride.

When traveling on East Coast Road near Thiruporur, the man asked Ram Kumar to stop the vehicle to attend nature’s call. Police said Ram Kumar also got down from the car.

Suddenly, the passenger took out a knife and attacked Ram Kumar and escaped from the spot with the car.

As he had left his mobile phone inside the car, Ramkumar sought the help of onlookers and filed a complaint with the Thiruporur police station. He was later taken to the Chengalpattu government hospital for treatment.

Police then traced the signal from Ramkumar’s mobile phone and found the car parked at a spot near Tiruvanmiyur. Police seized the car and are investigating who the hijacker was and why he abandoned the car.
