The deceased has been identified as Haridoss, a construction worker from Tindivanam. He was staying at a rented house in Pallikaranai.

The incident happened around 10 am on Tuesday when Haridoss was on his way home from Saidapet. When he was riding on the flyover near the Kamatchi Hospital junction in Pallikaranai, he lost control of the vehicle due to oil spilled on the road.

Haridoss was thrown away and died on the spot with severe head injuries, as the helmet he was wearing came off in the impact. On information, the St Thomas Mount Traffic investigation police went to the spot, recovered his body and sent it for autopsy to the Chromepet Government Hospital.

As his skull and ribs were found broken, the police suspect that he could have been run over by some vehicle after he was thrown off. They are waiting the for autopsy report to confirm their suspicion. “It is not clear whether he hit the median or was run over by another vehicle,” said the police. The police are also going through the CCTV footage.

The police said the oil must have leaked from a tanker lorry just before the accident. As the traffic police covered the spillage with the sand and diverted the vehicles on the flyover, traffic was affected on the stretch for a few hours.
