Metro Rail contractor fined Rs 1 L for mosquito breeding

As part of the city-wide mosquito breeding control measures, officials of Greater Chennai Corporation inspected a storage facility belonging to a private contractor of Metro Rail and imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on Friday.

 “The facility, on Swami Sivananda Road, was being used by the contractor to mix concrete and do fabrication works of pillars for Metro Rail construction.

During our inspection, we found uncontrolled mosquito breeding. They made the payment promptly after the imposition of penalty,” a Chennai Corporation official said. The inspection was conducted by Vasudevan, sanitary officer of Royapuram zone, and sanitary inspector Senthil Kumar. Meanwhile, a Chennai Corporation press release said that the civic body had collected Rs 32.74 lakh as penalty from those who had failed to control mosquito breeding in their premises till Friday.
