The recently held India Plog Run 2019 in the city on October 2 managed to gather 365 ploggers to take part in the cleanliness drive.

The event was envisioned by Ramakrishna Ganesh, the convenor of India Plog Run, as the largest and first-of-its-kind community driven awareness activity on plastic pollution in the country. It was estimated to mobilise over two lakh citizens in 50 cities, covering a total of 500 locations across 7.5 lakh kilometres — all in one day.

The plog run in Chennai, held along with Recycle Pro, a non-profit social initiative started by students of Sishya School, witnessed about 43kg of plastic collected within an hour. The youngest plogger was just five, while the oldest was 74-years-old. Those who took part in the plog run included students from Sishya and other schools in the city, Stella Maris College, and firms FICCI FLO, Intercontinental Group of Hotels and AccessHealthcare.
