‘One student one tree’ programme to save water depletion
Observing the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science organised an event, ‘Walk for Water’ recently.

The event was proposed by Par Anand Charitable Trust, Friends for Good Health (USA), and Healing Lives (UAE) on a collective platform.
The event was held by a New York based philanthropist and designer Sanjana Jon and the special guests for the event were Tiruporur Legislative Assembly member SRL Idhayavarman and singer and actor Vijay Yesudas.
Pointing to the recent UN meet emphasising the alarming water crisis, the world is heading to, Sanjana made a reference to the scenario prevalent all over the world, specifically, in Chennai—the need to preserver water. She pointed to ‘one student one tree’ programme which is rightly set forthe movement.
Nearly 1,000 students of Hindustan College of Technology and Science participated to increase awareness on water preservation, minimising wastage, promoting rainwater harvesting and the purification of recycled and contaminated water.
SRL Idhayavarman highlighted the effective ways to save water during monsoon season. Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science director, Ashok Verghese stated that individuals should be responsible in preserving and protecting water. The event ended with planting of saplings.
