No filter: Sruti Nakkhul plans new celebrity talk show
There are a dime a dozen shows about cinema on television and you may wonder if there is room for more. I recently learnt that there can be room for one more, if it is a show with a difference.

Sruti Nakkhul, the wife of actor Nakkhul Jaidev, is going to be hosting a new celebrity interview show on a popular Tamil network that will be a retrospective analysis of a celebrity’s filmography. Fans can hang on every word as stars share the stories of what went into making scenes that are now considered iconic. Many may wonder if this is a departure from her previous show, which was based on food and cooking, long time passion of Sruti’s. She was a college senior of mine, and I can tell you that her baking skills were so legendary that till date, her number is saved on my phone as ‘Sruti Sr. Yummy Cakes’. However, I was surprised when I found out that her filmy connections were not just because of her actor husband, but began much earlier in life as her father is a cinematographer, who has worked with the biggest names in Tamil cinema. Her brother has followed suit and is a cinematographer in Bollywood. I wonder what dinner conversations were like for Sruti, growing up in that household.
Sruti has also been managing her husband’s career, but things weren’t always sailing so smoothly. Initially, there was a lot of resistance from people not taking her seriously, some of whom had even called Nakkhul to say they refused to speak to a woman. Nakkhul, however, had put his foot down and said that he did not want to work with them if they couldn’t respect women. The actor has an all-women team working with him. With the amount of travel that comes along with his career, it is nice to see this couple find ways to be involved in each other’s lives and spend more quality time together. Sruti even sits in on script pitches and discussions, as Nakkhul values her perspective. If you weren’t awwing at the couple’s cuteness, there is more. Over the years, she has taught him how to cook, after all food was her first love, even though Nakkhul quickly superseded it. From cooking their meals together, to Sruti now coming home after a long day of filming for her show to a nice home-cooked meal, the two are couple goals through and through. In fact, they are also proud parents of an adopted puppy. Aren’t they the sweetest! I, for one, am going to put my feet up to watch Sruti’s show and thoroughly enjoy it, hoping that I’ll have dinner served to me as well. A girl can dream, can’t she?
