Veggie, fruit prices fall after pooja

 The prices have been high for the past few weeks due to Ayudha pooja.

“The vegetable price has reduced by up to 10 to 15 per cent as the supply of vegetables has increased by 35 per cent. Currently, tomato is being sold for Rs 25-30 per kg, onions for Rs 35-40 per kg, carrots for Rs 30-35, brinjal at Rs 15-25, beans for Rs 25–40 and broad beans for Rs 25-40 per kg. We are expecting a price hike by 10 per cent from October 15, as the muhurtham season starts,” said P Sukumaran, secretary, Vegetable, Flower and Fruits Merchants Association.

Flower traders at the market also saw a fall in prices. “For the last one week, the prices have been double the normal due to high demand. Though the supply doesn’t meet the demand still, the festival season has ended. Now, jasmine is being sold for Rs 150-180 per kg, jasminum sambac for Rs 120-160 per kg, rose for Rs 30-40, fragipani (sambangi) for Rs 60-75 and pink jasmine (jadi malli) for Rs 90-120. For Deepavali, the prices might increase,” said S Mookaiya, Secretary, Koyambedu Malar Podhu Vyabarigal Sangam.

According to S Dhanasekar, Kai Kani Malar Podhu Nala Sangam, the prices of fruits are as usual.
