While the accused, Anupriya, initially claimed that her husband Suresh (26) could have died of excessive consumption of alcohol, the autopsy report revealed that he had strangulation marks around his neck. During interrogation, Anupriya admitted to have murdered him along with her friend, identified as Murasoli Maran (22). Both were remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
The police said that the deceased Suresh of Puthagaram near Puzhal was working at a butcher shop and married Anupriya five years ago, with the consent of both families, after meeting her at a function in Villupuram. The couple also has a four-year-old son, an LKG student.
Anupriya, a graduate, started working at a medical shop in Kolathur recently. As she was always speaking on the phone since then, it often led to a quarrel between the couple. Suresh allegedly beat her several times.
The police said Anupriya decided to eliminate Suresh to lead a peaceful life and sought the help of Murasoli Maran, who is from her hometown in Villupuram district.
On Sunday night, she mixed sleeping pills in dosa batter and served him dinner. After he fell asleep, she called Murasoli Maran and they both strangulated him to death. While Murasoli Maran left the house, Anupriya slept there itself and told the neighbours that he died when he was asleep.
However, the police during investigation confirmed that it was a murder and based on her inputs, Murasoli Maran was also arrested.
