90k schools to have smart boards by Dec

Around 90,000 schools across the State would be equipped with the smart boards by December, said the School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan in Thanjavur on Monday.

Speaking at the centenary celebrations of Saraswathi Mahal Library, the Minister said that the classes in government schools would be computerised by next month. After that, the students would be given spoken English training with the help of English labs. The smart classrooms in 7,500 schools would be completed by next month and 90,000 schools would have smart boards by December, he added.


Releasing Thirukkural on copper plates, Sengottaiyan said that the State government has been taking steps to popularise Thirukkural among people.


Speaking in the centenary celebrations of Saraswathi Mahal Library, the Minister said that the annual fund for the Saraswathi Mahal Library has been increased from Rs 70 lakh to 1 crore. “As the library is the second oldest in the world, it is the duty of our government to take care of it,” he said.


Later, speaking to the reporters, the Minister said an exclusive library has been established for folk arts in Thanjavur and the library for entrepreneurs has been established in Coimbatore. He also added that five more libraries would be established across the State. He said that the Centre has not so far been disbursed the fund of Rs 370 crore under SSA scheme.
