50-yr-old sexually assaults mentally challenged girl, arrested in Avadi

A 50-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a 11-year-old mentally challenged girl at his house in Avadi.

The accused, Nagaraj of Morai near Avadi, was working at a mobile umbrella repair unit in Avadi, said the police. The victim’s mother, who sells miscellaneous products at traffic junctions, left her child in the custody of neighbours when she was out for work.


On Monday, Nagaraj noticed that the girl was alone at her house and approached her. He was reportedly drunk. After wooing her to his house with chocolates, he allegedly sexually assaulted her. When she cried for help, neighbours rushed to her rescue, and chased and caught Nagaraj. He was thrashed before being handed over to the police.


Police said that Nagaraj was married and lived in a rented house in Morai with his wife and five children, including four daughters. The inspector Shoba Rani of Avadi all-women police station registered a case and arrested Nagaraj, who was remanded inPuzhal prison
