Officials and also authorities at the government hospitals in Chennai said the number of admissions are gradually coming down. The numbers, however, remain high in some of the districts.
According to senior Health Department officials, going by the number of admissions in government hospitals, the overall number of cases have reduced by 20 per cent in the last one month. Since the beginning of the year, Tamil Nadu has recorded about 4,200 dengue cases and reportedly seven deaths till this week.
“The hospitals, including Institute of Child Health, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and other government hospitals are getting lesser number of fever cases. Dengue cases, too, have reduced by about 20 per cent. The government hospitals that used to receive about 180-200 fever cases are now getting about 120-150 cases now,” said Public Health Director Dr K Kolandaisamy.
The cases have reduced in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Kancheepuram, he said, adding that it is expected to come down in Chennai and Tiruvallur this month. “We are continuing dengue control measures and breeding checks in all areas to prevent any rise in fever and dengue cases. Though private hospitals also have a large number of fever cases, it is expected to reduce further this month,” Dr Kolandaisamy added.
The fever clinics functioning at the government hospitals in city are receiving lesser number of admissions, as most are treated as outpatients. “The fever cases are being attended round-the-clock at the government hospital, but the number of in-patient fever referral cases have reduced in the past 10 days. This indicates that dengue cases are gradually reducing,” said a duty doctor at the fever clinic in RGGGH.
