CMRL, in partnership with Vogo Automotive Limited, launched the e-scooters at the two stations on a trial basis to provide last-mile connectivity for its passengers. A total of 10 e-scooters are there at Alandur station and 20 at Guindy Metrorail station. “At presently, around 35 to 45 commuters use our electric vehicles every day, which is a good response considering the number of vehicles,” the official said. CMRL had initially decided to launch the facility at four stations. However, talks are on with the service provider to expand the facility to other Metro Rail stations, wherever needs might arise.
Meanwhile, responding to the tweets, one user requested the CMRL to take action and stop car parking by nearby house owners, who occupy the space provided for the commuters. Apart from e-scooters, CMRL also operates share auto service, share taxi service and metro cabs service. In 15 Metro Rail stations, the CMRL provides bicycles for the use of passengers. Metro cabs can be booked using a mobile phone application launched by the CMRL.
