HC comes to rescue of medical student in Russia

A division bench comprising Justice S Vaidyanathan and Justice N Anand Venkatesh granted the relief after being told that Satishkumar, the sixth respondent in the case, was doing his MBBS course in Russia. He was arrested just the previous day when he was making arrangements to go to Russia to continue his second year of the course.

“Taking into consideration the facts and circumstances of the case, this court modifies the bail conditions imposed in the earlier order passed on October 31 insofar as Satishkumar is concerned. He is permitted to leave for Russia to continue his studies. Insofar as the conditions imposed for his mother and father, the same shall stand as they are,” the bench said.

In its order, the bench also recorded that when inquiries were held with the respondents – Satishkumar and his parents Baskaran and Santhi Priya – they stated that the petitioner, Palanikumar, is Baskaran’s brother. The third respondent, Gopinathan, is Baskaran’s elder son who is said to have eloped with Palanikumar’s daughter.

The relationship between Gopinathan and the daughter of the petitioner was almost like a brother and sister and therefore, there cannot be any valid marriage, the bench held, while directing Satishkumar to furnish the details regarding his residential address, email address and contact number in Russia to the Dindigul police.
