IIT staff, techie held for ganja peddling in city
Three persons, including an IIT-M research centre staff and a software professional, who were peddling ganja to techies were arrested on Monday night by the police, who also seized 1.180 kg ganja from their house in Taramani where they stocked and packed it into sachets.

They were identified as C Aravind of Taramani, a staff IIT-Madras Research Centre, L Kamalakannan (29) of Madipakkam, employed in a IT firm in Tidel Park, and E Linton Tony (26) of Abiramapuram, a drinking water can supplier.
Police said based on intelligence input, a sub-inspector pretended to be a customer contacted a man at Kodambakkam who in turn gave the number of Tony. When the SI contacted Tony, he directed him to come to three different places – Kotturpuram, Madhya Kailash and then Sholinganallur. He agreed to provide 100 packs of ganja for Rs 30,000. The transaction took place at Sholinganallur and Tony handed over the cash to Kamalakannan. Another police team followed Kamalakannan to his house in Taramani where he was caught red-handed. Police also arrested Aravind, who was inside the house.
Police said Tony procured ganja from brokers in Andhra Pradesh, which Kamalakannan peddled to techies while Aravind targeted college students. The trio have been remanded in judicial custody. Police also seized a weighing machine used to weigh the ganja before packing from their house.
