The accused were identified as K Santhi (44) and her son Nagaraj (20), residents of Kalavaipottal in Sivaganga district. The police noted that the they have been involved in burglary cases reported in Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts in the past.
The duo was arrested by the Valasaravakkam police based on a complaint from Abu backer (41), a resident of Valan Nagar. The suspects allegedly broke open his house door and stole four sovereigns and Rs 50,000 in cash from the cupboard.
The burglary took place when Abu Backer had gone to a hospital in Thousand Lights for medical examination on October 22. Following his complaint, a police team headed by Valasaravakkam Assistant Commissioner Mahimai Veeran traced the suspects with the help of the CCTV footage installed in the locality.
The investigators got a breakthrough when they inquired about the duo at a private firm in the neighbourhood. On seeing their images, the managers told the police team that the man sought for employment at their firm recently and wrote his mobile phone number in the office register. The cops tracked the mobile number and subsequently arrested the duo.
