19-year-old leaps to death from college’s 2nd floor
Less than an hour after attending her semester examination, a 19-year-old girl student committed suicide by jumping from the second floor of the private college where she studied near Chengalpattu on Wednesday. This is the second student suicide in and around the city in a week, which came after a student of IIT-Madras hanged herself.

According to sources, it was the college students who rushed her to a nearby private hospital, while the college administration claimed it was not aware of the incident.
The deceased was identified as V Krishna Priya from Villupuram, who doing final year BSc maths at Vidyasagar Arts and Science college in Chengalpattu. Police said she was staying at her relative’s house in Kalpakkam.
Around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, Krishna Priya came out of the hall after writing her semester exam. She had asked her friends to leave, saying that she would be a bit late.
Around 5 pm, she jumped from the second floor of the building. A few students who saw this rushed her to a private hospital in an autorickshaw. As her condition was critical, she was referred to the Government Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital at 8 pm. After being alerted by the hospital management, the Chengalpattu Taluk police visited the spot in the night and conducted inquires.
At 10.30 pm, Krishna Priya died without responding to treatment, said police, adding that they could not get a statement from her as she was not in the condition to speak.
The college did not inform the police regarding the incident, claiming that they were not aware of it. The Chengalpattu Taluk police said they were yet to receive complaint from the family yet.
